Flying with Qatar Airways was something I was really looking forward to. Sister company to British Airways, Qatar Airlines is an airline I couldn't wait to fly with. I had previously flown with Emirates to Nigeria, and I thought Qatar would be of the same quality.
Our economy flight to Doha, was seamless. No delays, an exceptional landing, and we were serviced with food and drink extremely well.
As soon as we arrived on broad and we seated, we were offered drinks. As we had an early morning flight, our first meal of the day was breakfast. I expected a croissant, (British Airways favourite handout!) but we got a mini size, full english breakfast. I mean sausages, eggs, croissant and even baked beans! I opted for the vegetarian option because I wanted to try something new. I tried the frittatas, and they were amazing! Fresh, tasty, and filling!

If that wasn't enough, The Non- vegetarian option was pretty much a Full English. They even offered baked beans! Luckily, I managed to try both and they were both delicious. The meals did not taste like typical plane food at all. (They tasted better than some breakfast's I've had at hotels!) Both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian options were extremely impressive.

Take off From Heathrow
Takeoff from Heathrow airport was very smooth. The Flight left right on time, without any delays. Even though we had previously checked in online, we noticed the increase in self service. We had to collect our boarding passes from a machine, print off our own bag tags and attach them, and check our bags in ourselves. We hardly had any contact with staff until we forgot where to go! It saddens me to see the rise of electronic service in the airports because it reminds me of the world that we currently live in. Less contact with humans, less customer service and ultimately less care. Not to mention, that many of us will soon be out of jobs.
Hamad International Airport - Doha |
I had previously heard so much about Doha airport, and I was looking forward to exploring, but as we only had an hour or so connection time, we really had to rush. It didn't help that I forgot bottle of juice in my mum's bag, which delayed us at the check points. Aisles and gates are really spread out and you can easily lose your way around. Luckily there were many Qatar Airline staff showing us the way to go.
Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to explore the airport, so on my next flight, I will consider a longer stopover to explore the lounge and other areas in depth. Typically, I prefer direct flights, but the fact that we earned extra miles by stopping off, I'd most definitely consider it again!
Landing in Sri Lanka - Bandaranaike Airport
It was nice to be able to join in with the cheerful clapping for the successful landing of our flight. Once we arrived at Bandaranaike Airport, we easily found our way around. We waited a while for my suitcase which unfortunately arrived damaged. Prior to travelling, I purchased a plastic suitcase protector, which was missing by the time I received my suitcase. If that wasn't bad enough, my suitcase was damaged quite badly, with screws sticking out. So taking extra precautions for my luggage did not help me on this occasion. My suitcase was brand new, it had never been used before then. If you want to be as prepared as you can be, don't forget to book your return transport when you arrive and depart. Second to None? Second to One...
I wouldn't consider myself a frequent traveller (yet), but I have flown with many airlines and I must say that Emirates still takes the number one spot for me. I'm not sure why, I just felt the customer service was impeccable. Yes, that was a long time ago, but I can only hope the service remains the same. Qatar Airways service is great, but I can honestly say that a wider varied menu would have been a little bit more appreciated. Hot drinks can be offered a little more regularly, not just cold drinks, and it would be really nice to limit duplicating the meals.
Overall, my experience with Qatar Airways was amazing and I look forward to flying with them again. Hopefully, next time will be first class! Why not book your flights through Booking.com.
